Insulate your garden with plants

Gardens packed with plants are not only beautiful to look at...they can also help to insulate your property.  If you plant your garden properly you will be able to see a reduction in your heating bills - and they will help to keep your property cool in hot weather too.

On the south side of the property, where you received the most sunlight, plant deciduous trees and shrubs.  This will  provide cooling shade in the summer whilst allowing you to recieve all the warming benefit of the sunlight in the winter.

Plant evergreen shrubs a short distance away from the house on al the other sides.  This will trap pockets of air close to the house that will help to insulate your property.

You can extend this principal to green roofs and vertical gardening to insulate your home even more effectively.
